Pursuing a responsible approach, the two hotels are committed to protecting surrounding nature. By consuming with awareness and applying sustainable development as a principle for decisions and actions, they give back to nature what it offers by reducing, recycling, re-using.
Both surrounded by nature, their eco-responsible approach is first seen in the choice of noble, locally sourced materials, to root them in their environment. The roofs of Les Sources de Cheverny are thus made of zinc, slate or limestone, bathrooms at Les Sources de Caudalie of Pyrenean marble. The decor focuses on restored or secondhand furniture adding more soul, but also avoiding overconsumption. In their CSE chart (Corporate Social Responsibility), Les Sources de Caudalie undertake to reduce their water and energy consumption: LED lightbulbs, foam faucets etc. The creation of a well was one of the first steps. Its water is now used for sprinkling and in the spa. All waste is sorted and recycled. A vermicomposter recycles all vegetable waste, its compost then feeds the market garden supplying the hotel with fruit, vegetables and aromatic herbs. Dishes in the hotels' restaurants are thus local and seasonal. Going one step further, the 2-star restaurant at Les Sources de Caudalie only proposes a single, weight-controlled meat dish.
The success of all these measures is due to collective effort. With "La Sources Académie", team members are trained year-round, in waste sorting, fighting wastage, but also ecological cleaning. To get rid of cleaning products (all with eco-labels), Les Sources de Caudalie is gradually turning to dry steam cleaners. Guests discover eco-responsible welcome products in their rooms. Body care (shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, cream) comes in large recycled plastic dispensers, recyclable and rechargeable, with 100% French composition and over 95% of natural ingredients. Zero packaging is also vital: when it is necessary, it is made of recycled paper or corn starch. Water in the rooms is filtered and sealed on-site in glass bottles, sterilized before each use. Changing of linen (sheets and towels) is not automatic: every 2 to 3 days (or by request) on long stays. Made of cotton, in Belgium, with biodegradable soles, slippers offered to guests are also eco-responsible!
Les Sources de Caudalie now bears the EU Ecolabel, recognising the measures taken since its creation, but also to improve them. Le Palace des Vignes is also calculating its carbon footprint in order to choose better investments in the coming years. Then we will see Écotable, a sustainable restaurant label, to reward efforts in each and every dish!
A virtuous circle
In the "Vineyard Hotels", purchasing is a matter of awareness: the source of everything is known and, above all, it can be recycled or re-used. For example, the "Cravate Solidaire" association collects old sourcers' uniforms to give to those in difficulty so that they can attend job interviews under the best conditions. Used soap is recycled thanks to SapoCycle, transformed and redistributed free of charge to those in need. Everything is circular… Even tableware at La Grand’Vigne at Les Sources de Caudalie, handmade by a local ceramist from ashes from wood and vines at the Château Smith Haut Lafitte!
