Dive into an artwork!

For its floor alone, signed by artist-photographer Mathilde de l’Ecotais, the pool at Les Sources de Caudalie is unique. The experience of swimming in it, too.

The artistic approach pursued by Mathilde de l’Ecotais revolves around the living and organic. From the start of her career, she has photographed the grape in all its forms; for her, its round seeds evoke the early stages in wine production. Her collaboration with the luxury hotel in Le Bordelais thus seemed self-evident.

For the pool at Les Sources de Caudalie, the artist-photographer created a process for submerged photography that is unique worldwide. It took several years of development for her to perfect a monumental image that resists not only water, chlorine and salt, but also the ultra-violet rays of the sun. A technical achievement of which Mathilde de l’Ecotais is extremely proud, and which fits perfectly into her work and approach.

The rendering of the photo submerged in the pool surprises just as much from outside as in. Water gives it movement and distorts perspectives, while light can affect its colours. Taking a dip in the pool at Les Sources de Caudalie thus offers an unparalleled experience, giving you the impression of being an integral part of the work. Real immersion in a work of art!

After the fins of the fugu fish and the leaves of Merlot Bordelais, the choice for the new photograph adorning the floor of the hotel's pool resulted in representation of grape seeds. One of the first shots taken by Mathilde de l’Ecotais, this photo has been entirely recreated for the occasion. With a nod and a wink to the vine, the work sets off the pool's timber rafters, and vice versa.
