From wine to lifestyle

Owners of Château Smith Haut Lafitte since 1990, Florence and Daniel Cathiard acquired an historic Nappa Valley vineyard in 2020.

Over 30 years ago, Florence and Daniel Cathiard "reawakened" a great Bordelais vintage, guided by intuition and a taste for challenges. They have been able to draw the best from Bordeaux vines and they have constantly invested in the Château Smith Haut Lafitte vineyard, now organic and biodynamic, so that it can produce the best fruit.

Since 2020, the adventure continues in California’s Nappa Valley, in the Cathiard Vineyard. At the foot of the Mayacamas, this old property officially opened this year. “Vintners have cultivated this land for over a century. We are proud to take over and give it a future,” says Florence Cathiard. Investments were necessary to exploit the unique terroir of these 41.75 acres. A new cellar now joins a charming old winery, the barrel cellar has been renovated, and some vines already benefit from organic and biodynamic methods. The property will also make its own barrels, another signature of the Cathiard family, who wanted to import this Bordeaux expertise by creating a cooperage open to the public. Comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon, insider vintages and two blending vintages, the Cathiard Vineyard range can be discovered in the Château Smith Haut Lafitte boutique, very close to Les Sources de Caudalie, on a visit to its sublime 18th-C. château.
