Beyond dreams

One of the 49 keys of Les Sources de Cheverny particularly heightens the senses, both literally and figuratively. Step into an unparalleled Signature Suite named “Le Baron Perché”.

The Rooms and Suites of Les Sources hotels unveil a unique charm and personality. At Les Sources de Cheverny, “Le Baron Perché” epitomizes the intimate comfort embodied by the Collection, maintaining a continuous connection with history, nature, and the environment. With its solid wood framework designed by architect Yves Collet, this iconic suite serves as a sanctuary for its guests. But before ascending the steps of this turret perched on stilts above the tranquil waters of the estate, let us tell you the story behind its name. It is drawn from a novel of the same name, published in 1957 by Italian author Italo Calvino (1923-1985). This philosophical tale follows the adventure of Cosimo, a young 18th-century aristocrat, who one morning decides to climb to the top of a tree and stay there forever. To become one with nature and never touch the ground again and live freely... This sentiment is realized at Cheverny. Once you step through the door of the Suite, it affectionately envelops you with Alice and Jérôme Tourbier’s great attention to detail, assisted by the Parisian studio Saint-Lazare, who have created a “narrative decoration” here, elevating guests to the heights of well-being. “The interior decoration contrasts with the exterior. It is unexpected and sophisticated, enhancing the value of this raw wooden shell even more,” notes Antoine Ricardou, co-founder of the Ateliers Saint-Lazare, drawing inspiration from literature to conceive this warm space that blends oak, cream tones, and magnolia green.

You can discover a series of three herbarium boards, on the wall, drawn by Shelagh Keeley, a Canadian artist, as well as a print by the Australian photographer Jessica Tremp. There are also collectible items and antique furniture. We took great care in sourcing this decoration with Alice,” he adds. The Suite also features surprisingly unique lighting fixtures, such as bedside Stilnovo pendant lamps from the 1950s. “The desk lamp reflects our fascination with repurposing. Its base is a concrete core, a remnant from the construction works, which we electrified,” explains Antoine Ricardou. The eye, softened by fabrics from Maison Pierre Frey, is continuously surprised, particularly by the totemic sculpture created by the Atelier Pyrénéen. Finally, extending from the sleeping area, the lounge highlights an Italian banana sofa in ash green and a 1970s rug, evoking tree bark patterns. The breathtaking view of the Loire orchards from this space is truly picturesque, enhanced by the presence of a private terrace where a Nordic bath promises unforgettable moments of relaxation. From up here, it’s impossible not to feel close to nature. There's no desire to come back down, just as “Le Baron Perché” once felt.
